- Newborn photography tips for parents
Parents guide how to prepare for a newborn photo session. Would you like to have beautiful photos of your newborn baby? I have photographed newborns since 2013 and would like to share with you this little Parents guide on how to prepare for a newborn photo session. It will cover the most aspects to consider prior to coming for the photoshoot. If you are still on maternity stage, don’t forget to check out my Pregnancy Gallery Content: When to book the newborn photoshoot? When to do the newborn baby photos? Is it safe to take the newborn photographs? What can you expect from the newborn photo session? What's happening during the session? How to prepare the baby for the photoshoot? What to bring for the newborn photo session? When to book the newborn photoshoot? I suggest booking after the second baby scan, I do only one photoshoot per day and generally, I'm booked a few months upfront. To provide my clients with the highest quality, and none rushed sessions, I am only taking a limited number of sessions per month. It is important to schedule your session while you are still pregnant to avoid disappointment. This way, I can add you to the list of babies due for that month. However, if you just came across my website, and have a baby under 12 days, please contact me, I will do my best to accommodate you. When to do the newborn baby photos? Most of the photographers will say – you need to get your photos done within the first 10 days. Generally, yes that works best if your baby arrives as planned and there are no health problems. What if your baby has arrived four weeks early? I’ve had parents calling me, worried they will miss the window to capture newborn photos. For this group, I always recommend waiting at least three weeks, or often until their actual due date. If the baby is under five pounds (2.2kg), I suggest waiting until they put on a bit of weight. Is it safe to take the newborn photographs? Safety of your baby is most important for me. I'm trained and fully insured newborn photographer. I photograph newborns for over 7 years. I was a physiotherapist and work with babies and children for many years before I started my photography business. All of the newborn sessions are done in my home studio in Manchester, it is warm, welcoming and cosy. Everything has been created for your and baby maximum comfort. You are sure to have a relaxed and peaceful experience. What's happening during the session? The first thing you need to understand about a newborn session is that it takes a lot of time and a lot of patience from everyone. Most parents may think that their newborn session will be a breeze, but the truth is even the "ideal baby" will still be challenging. Please, and I stress, please don't even think about scheduling a doctor or midwife appointment before your session. This will stress out your baby and the session most certainly will not go well. On that note, newborn sessions take a lot of time, so please do not schedule anything after your session. I would hate for you to have to rush out early and not get the images you want. We may spend up to 2-3 hours photographing your baby and wouldn't have it any other way. We allow enough time to account for your baby to eat and for those moments when your little one decides it’s time to use the restroom and we need to clean up. I expect your baby to go to the bathroom on my backgrounds and props; it's just part of the experience and happens every time. My stuff washes easily. Please don't feel embarrassed or feel the need to apologize when this happens at your session. I highly recommend bringing a change of clothes because chances are good that baby might go to the bathroom on you. It also accounts for time to change setups for different poses. We want you to have a great experience and images from our studio. I do keep the studio between 21 and 25 degrees so you will want to dress appropriately. If I am not sweating then it is not warm enough in the studio! So, dress accordingly and maybe wear layers that can be removed if necessary. We’ll photograph your baby in the buff so please do not bring outfits for the baby. Most clothing items swallow the baby and we prefer to capture the naturalness of your baby. We believe it is by capturing the innocence of a nude baby that makes our images art. How to prepare the baby for the photoshoot? On the morning of the shoot, it’s preferable to try and keep baby awake as long as possible. A bath and lots of play is always good stimulation. Feed your baby 2-3 hours before the shoot. This will (hopefully) mean that baby will be ready for a feed shortly after arriving at the studio, which will equal a satiated, comfortable baby. What to bring for the newborn photo session? I always send the following checklist to my clients. The checklist is focused on families who come to my studio for my usual three-hour newborn photoshoot. Bring a snack and water for yourself and any siblings. The photoshoot will be long and you are in the warm room. If siblings are coming, bring some entertainment for them. Don’t forget some bribing material for cuddly sibling shots. Bring at least two changes of clothing, one for the official family photos and one just in case any accidents happen. Bring a couple of wrapping blankets for the baby, to keep them warm during feeds. Bring everything for changing and feeding the baby, including any creams you use or special eco-materials. If the newborn has long hair, bring a brush. Any toys or props you would like to add into the photos. This one can be a bit controversial, but I always suggest bringing a dummy (pacifier). I know many parents are moving away from using these, but if chaos breaks loose and the little one doesn’t want to cooperate, the dummy can help us get through the session. Try to keep your baby awake on the way to the session. A good practice is to arrive, feed and get going with the session. I hope you have enjoyed all the information here and find them helpful. If there is anything else you would like to know or have any questions or concerns, please do contact me. I am more than happy to answer any questions you have. Check newborn gallery I look forward to seeing you soon!

How long did you plan your wedding? - Our wedding day wasn't the original plan. We had been planning it since we got engaged in March last year but we decided to get married was more important to us than a big wedding so still got married during COVID with a small number of people. We hope to do another wedding party with our other family and friends next year. What made you choose your wedding venue? - We both met each other in Manchester so wanted to have a venue in Manchester and the views on top of Hotel Football are really nice of Manchester itself so it felt like the right choice for us. Would you like to say a special thank you to somebody who helps you make your wedding day perfect? There is everyone to thank who was there. They made it so special and we were so grateful everyone came and having our closest people there was amazing as well as having a wonderful photographer to document it all.
- Newborn Photos in Manchester- Baby Alfie
In life, it just doesn’t get much happier than the arrival of a new baby. One moment, there is simply the dream of this unknown, but already-loved person. The next moment—Waaaaaah! Here he is, old-soul eyes blinking in the sudden light. Here he is, tiny clenched fists still holding tight to the wonder of the place he’s just come from… What a privilege it is to photograph the first days of baby life, every little detail, tiny ears, little pink toes, those rolls, chubby cheeks and wispy lashes...Remember them they change so very quickly. They are not little for long :)
- Outdoor family portrait photo shoot
Outdoor sessions are great for capturing images of lively children at their best, I like to keep them active in a fun outdoor family photography session. I would like to share a few photos from the garden and home portrait photo session with sweet Isabella and her parents. We arranged this photoshoot in August last year, luckily the weather was perfect and we could do some nice photos in the garden. Outdoor photography is a great alternative to the studio, we can choose from unlimited background options. You can go for the calm, blue waters of the beach or the green grasses and brown mountains. And don't forget about beautiful natural light.
- Engagement photo shoot in Alderley Park, Cheshier
I would like to share some photos from my last engagement photo shoot at Alderley Edge Park. The weather wasn't the best but I glad this didn't stop us, photos are a bit darker and misty and that's makes them special and more unusual. Sometimes when you don't expect too much you reach for the best. #engagementphotography #couplephotosession #weddinginKnutsford

- How to avoid child modelling scams
I've seen many posts on social media about modelling agencies "Amateur models needed, all ages, sizes, and looks." or perhaps "New faces needed! No experience necessary" or " Huge demand on children models". You've always known that you looked good, or someone told you you are very photogenic or your child love to pose to the photos and have a great smile. So perhaps you've always considered that career as a potential future for yourself or your child...So, when you call back, you're told that they are holding a session this weekend. You show up, dressed to the nines, and you are told you need to pay a £100 photographer's fee for the session today. Then you're given a lecture about commitment, determination, and deeper pockets, about how important a portfolio is for a model, even an amateur one. You ask if you can supply your own pictures. You have plenty of good portraits on your smartphone. They tell you they require you to use their own photographer with professional equipment. You ask if this constitutes a contract, and you're told no, this is just a meet and greet, where they get a few pictures to see if anyone else would want to book you. You have to build a portfolio first, they emphasize. And that costs money. You are told that you can earn big money as a model for very little work. That is just one of the scenarios and it happens more often than you think. These con artists only get away with it because they are not confronted. The more people the realise that they are a scam and question their conduct the more people will be saved from falling victim to them. Firstly DO NOT hand over money to anybody that invites you to a test shoot. You may be told that you need to pay a deposit for a test shoot - this is not how real agencies work. DO NOT hand over to anybody that says your child needs a portfolio. They DO NOT. Under no circumstances does a child need a portfolio to enter the modelling industry. A few professional snaps are always nice BUT a legitimate agency will sort that out for you or at least point you in the right direction. It certainly wouldn't EVER cost £2000, not even £1000, in fact... Not even £150! Do NOT give these con artists your card details or set up a direct debit for overpriced, rubbish, unedited photographs that you DO NOT need. These 'agencies' are simply photography studios, some don't even have professional photographers. They pray on dreams and hopes of children and parents. They make you think that your child has star potential and they use that to squeeze money from you. Real agencies do not conduct themselves like this. If you have been scammed you can file a complaint with the EAI. The link is below, make sure you fill it out and send it. They will be investigated and shut down. The more people that know how a scam agency works, that know how to complain, the HARDER it is for these agencies to operate. Please read the link below and share with friends that are thinking about it too. This is government link - it's reliable, legitimate and trustworthy. https://employmentlaw.blog.gov.uk/2015/01/08/regulation-of-modelling-agencies/ With around 20 child model agencies across the UK, each with several hundred children on their books, it is a competitive world. There are lots of stunning children out there, all vying for similar jobs. It’s not unusual for agencies to receive more than 200 applications a week from parents of would-be child models – but 95 per cent get rejected by return post. Even if your child is beautiful, he or she might not have what it takes. Looking great in the flesh, doesn’t always translate on camera. Best models are happy and natural, don’t mind being photographed and love dressing up. They need to enjoy being the centre of attention. If you haven’t been put off yet and you would like to practice your child modelling skills contact me to arrange a photoshoot because the most important are the memories and stunning photographs you will have.
- Children photo shoot - Isabelle at Fletcher Moss Park
It’s said that you should never work with children or animals. With photography, though, children and animals can be the most entertaining subjects to work with! The beauty of shooting children is capturing them as they are, and the best shots are often impromptu. Unless I’m working with a professional child model my shoots are never longer than an hour, I’m always watching for the signs they are done – pushing a child beyond that point doesn’t benefit anybody. Even as an adult, having a camera point at us makes us squirm. So it’s no wonder that the kids start acting unnatural when you point a camera at them. When photographing children, I need to be persistent and patient, lifting the camera often enough that the kids get used to it. After a while they should forget it’s there and you’ll have those candid, natural shots that always look the best. Studios can be intimidating – generally I recommend not using a studio unless it’s commercial work. I always suggest finding quiet outdoor locations when children can run around and play. I prefer natural light and a natural environment (at a park or at home), as I believe the raw emotions of children should be depicted in the raw light. I’m being a bit silly when I work with children. No matter what I shoot that day I want them to go home with a smile on their face, excited to see the photos. We arrange session with Isabelle at The Fletcher Moss Park in Didsbury, Manchester. It's a beautiful park and it's not very busy. She was a little star playing around, smiling and posing. We have so many beautiful photos so it was really difficult to choose just a few to publish. - Pre-wedding photo shoot in Salford Quays.
I met with Michelle and Simon a few weeks before their wedding day to take some engagement photos in Salford Quays. An engagement shoot is a wonderful idea to consider before your wedding. Whether you want to re-create your proposal moment, capture some beautiful photos in a spot that has meaning to you both, or just simply want to get to know your photographer, having an engagement shoot is a fantastic way to express that elated glow you get in the lead up to the aisle. An engagement shoot could help settle pre-wedding nerves and get you used to be in front of the camera. Not to mention it builds trust with your photographer and gives you an idea of how they will photograph you as a couple.
