- Best photo locations in Manchester and around Manchester
A spectacular range of architectural styles makes Manchester a great location for photo shoots. Modern, Contemporary, Georgian, Roman and Gothic, Manchester has it all. Manchester is one of the most vibrant cities in England, throbbing with creativity, full of interesting architecture and home to possibly the most famous football club in the world. There truly is something for everyone in this industrial city – and we promise that it doesn’t always rain! There are many reasons to visit Manchester but as a photographer, I always look for the best spots to take photos. I photographed many weddings, couples and families in the Manchester area so I decided to write a series about my favourite locations for a photo shoot in Manchester and around Manchester. Today 3 location in the city centre of Manchester, 2 under roof perfect for rainy days and one outside. 1.The John Rylands Library 150 Deansgate, Manchester M3 3EH One of the most spectacular places in Manchester. The John Rylands Library is a late-Victorian neo-Gothic building that today is part of the University of Manchester Library. While plenty comes here to research and study their historic collection, it's worth a visit and takes some pictures for the amazing architecture of the library. 2. Manchester Town Hall Town Hall, Manchester M60 2LA To walk its interior or just sit in Albert Square and view it or walk around its exterior, the experience is breathtaking. Manchester's impressive gothic town hall and political home, on Albert Square, was designed by architect Alfred Waterhouse and opened in 1877. The building's Great Hall features murals by pre-Raphaelite master Ford Madox Brown and the town hall interior has regularly been used by film-makers as a replica for the inside of the Houses of Parliament. Manchester Town Hall is as well a very popular place for weddings. 3. Manchester University village Situated in the city centre, a perfect place for a photo shoot with a combination of beautiful old and modern architecture. Worth to visit Manchester Museum and Whitworth Gallery If you decided to visit Manchester and you are looking for someone to show you a city and take great candid photos of you along the way, please contact me.
- Janine & Scott wedding at Etrop Grange Hotel in Manchester
Janine & Scott said their vows at Etrop Grange Hotel. That was the beginning of something new. Together. They hosted a stunning wedding filled with love, laughter, and happiness. Thank you for the honour of being your wedding photographer. Much Appreciation and Love...M :) I wanted to share a handful of images from their big day and tell a bit more about their special day. In Janine & Scott's own words, here is their story, so take a look below, and enjoy... How did you meet? We met 12 years ago whilst out with friends and family in a Manchester city centre bar, danced through the night and exchanged numbers, after a week we started speaking to each other daily on the telephone as we lived in different cities at the time, and it was clear that we had strong feelings for each other as the calls progressed. Tell me more about your engagement, when and how this happened? We have been on a journey in our relationship for many years, these years have brought joy and sadness however our love for each other has never faded. It could be said that the love we had for each other had at times made the journey harder however it is through this journey that our love has found strength and security. We realised that we could not live without each other and wanted to make a commitment to each other for the rest of our lives. We planned our special day from that conversation. How long did you plan your wedding? We married a year from engagement, going to a wedding fair at the venue we eventually married in, the venue was decided on very quickly and we had most of the wedding planning and arrangements decided on with 4 months of setting a date. What made you choose your wedding venue? We went and visited several venues across Manchester and Salford, Etrop Grange stood out from arrival, it was exactly what we were looking for with the idea of a twilight wedding which included all the elements wanted for our wedding. The staff were really approachable and incredibly accommodating to our wishes, when we visited for a wedding fair the quality of the décor, food and atmosphere was perfect. What was your favourite part of your wedding day? Janine's favourite part of the wedding was standing at the back of the room looking down the isle and seeing my face smiling, waiting for her. Scott's favourite was looking into each others eyes and exchanging our vows to each other during the wedding blessing ceremony. Would you like to say a special thank you to somebody who helps you make your wedding day perfect? Scott – My best man Dave who also blessed the wedding, without his friendship and support the day would not have been the same. Janine – A special thank you to my bridesmaid/sister Vicky and my friend Hannah for keeping me calm, making me laugh during the morning and run up to the ceremony. A special thank you to my parents for all their support.

We got engaged in January. I went to Liverpool one Friday to visit Neale and he took me to Wales for the weekend. He decorated a converted barn with candles, fairy lights and photos. How long did you plan your wedding? Very quickly! About 6 months. What made you choose Mottram St Andrew Village Hall your wedding venue? All the profits just go back into running the community hub. The setting was also really beautiful. What was your favourite part of your wedding day? Hanging out with family and friends. What was your first dance song? You are the Best Thing Would you like to say a special thank you to somebody who helps you make your wedding day perfect? Everyone who helped make it really special. - Emma & Stephen Wedding at The Stables Country Club in Bury
Emma & Stephen said their vows at Our Lady Of Dolours Church. That was the beginning of something new. Together. They hosted a stunning wedding filled with love, laughter, and happiness at The Stables Country Club in Bury. Thank you for the honour of being your wedding photographer. Much Appreciation and Love...M :) I wanted to share a handful of images from their big day and tell a bit more about their special day. In Emma & Stephen's own words, here is their story, so take a look below, and enjoy... How did you meet? We had our first date at Castlefield Food Festival on 15th May 2015. We got some drinks and some food and we got on straight away. Tell me more about your engagement, when and how this happened? So we got engaged on Christmas Day 2016. We both came downstairs and starting opening the presents under the tree. One of the first presents I opened was a photobook that Ste had made for me. It was called 'The story so far'. It included pictures from our early dates and our first holidays and special dates and moments together. As I got near to the end of the book, it said, "Next chapter (turn over...)". On the next page it said, "I have an important question to ask...". When I looked up, Ste was down on his knee holding a beautiful engagement ring. I said yes straight away. How long did you plan your wedding? We started planning quite quickly after getting engaged. We got the venue, car, band and photographer sorted within the next few months then had a break for a while, as we bought a house so that took up a lot of our time. What made you choose your wedding venue? We looked around a few different venues but The Stables Country Club won as it was nearby and it had the barn/ rustic feel that we wanted. However, the main reason that we chose it was because of the grounds. We thought they were beautiful and we knew they'd look good in our pictures, as well as having a nice outdoor space that the guests could use. What was your favourite part of your wedding day? We couldn't choose, we loved the whole day! The highlights were probably the wedding ceremony, driving to the venue in the wedding car, the speeches and dancing the night away with the band. What was your first dance song? Green eyes by Coldplay. It's always been a special song to us.

- Engagement/pre-wedding photo shoot at Dunham Massey
A couple weeks ago I met up with Becci and Neale at Dunham Massey, one of my favourite places, for their pre-wedding shoot. One of the main aspects of a pre-wedding shoot is helping couples understand that there aren't any set rules when it comes to how they are and interact when having their photo taken. You can't really get it wrong! The key is learning to be comfortable enough to be yourselves whilst being photographed, then the unique and genuine nature of your relationship will shine through. It was a pleasure to spend time with such a lovely couple. We had great fun, and ended up with some lovely photos. I'll leave you with a selection of moments from their shoot.

- Why should you exist in photographs?
I went through a period of my life where I wouldn’t be photographed because I didn't like myself, I didn't like the way I looked. I understand the power of thinking I wasn't good enough to be on photos. Most women are self-conscious of being photographed, it doesn’t matter how beautiful they are. You deserve to be seen. you need to have beautiful photographs! You are good enough to be in a family portrait. You are good enough to be photographed with your kids. You are good enough to exist in photographs. You must celebrate your life. I don’t care how fat you think you are, I don’t care how old you think you are. My job, as a portrait photographer, is to take the most beautiful photograph you have ever seen of yourself, so that you can cherish this for the rest of your life. IF YOU WON’T DO IT FOR YOU, DO IT FOR YOUR KIDS! Imagine your child in 10 years time looking through a family album and not finding any photos of you in it. Do you have any photos of your parents? How do you feel when you look back on photos with your parents? Our children will love to look at those photos with you in years to come and will be amazed at how young we looked, what clothes we wore and what activities we used to do with them. Looking at pictures of your children on their own will make you smile and make you proud. Looking at photos of you with your children will bring back the emotions you felt at that particular time of their life. So, please… Whether it’s with me, or another photographer get in front of the camera and enjoy it! Your children will never look at them saying “I wish you waited until you lost a bit more weight” and you might be surprised and actually love and cherish those images years from now. Last tip? Get them printed!! Technology is not always reliable, and those memories are not replaceable. So always backup your photos and print your favourites so you actually get to look at them. If you would like to be in your pictures for yourself and your children, get in touch today! contact #portraitphotographerinManchester #Manchesterfamilyportraits #portraitphotography #familyportraits #portraitphotographer #familypicturesManchester #familyphotos
- What to expect from your newborn baby photo shoot
You’ve done your research and booked your newborn photography session or not yet ( don't be late, it can only be done before babies reach 14 days of age) but I suspect you are probably wondering what happens at these type of sessions, so here is a little more info to hopefully answer any questions you may have about a newborn photography session with me. How do I prepare my baby for the shoot? On the morning of the shoot, it’s preferable to try and keep baby awake as long as possible. A bath and lots of play is always good stimulation. Feed your baby 2-3 hours before the shoot. This will (hopefully) mean that baby will be ready for a feed shortly after arriving at the studio, which will equal a satiated, comfortable baby. What do I need for the session? You don't need to bring anything for a photo shoot, I have all props and accessories we will need during a photo session. If however there is a special toy or item that you would like included in the session please do let me know. The final images are yours to enjoy and I want to make them as personal to you and your family as possible. Bring a dummy if you use one, as they really do help to settle babies during the shoot. How long does a newborn photography session take? A session can take anywhere between 2 and 3 hours. I am completely guided by baby and they are in charge! If baby needs a feed, settle, wind etc, we stop and ensure that he/she is completely comfortable before we start again. Most of my sessions take about 2 hours, but as I only book one newborn session per day there is no rush. It takes as long as it takes to ensure I have a selection of images you will love. What if my baby cries or is unsettled? There is a chance your baby may cry. I don’t smell familiar like Mummy and Daddy, and their sleep is slightly disturbed when I move and pose them. Rest assured I will never continue if your baby is distressed but I can generally placate a baby quite quickly and can read the signs if they are just grumbling at me or if they need some settling. Sometimes they just need a cuddle! Not all babies are the same. Some drop off to sleep in 5 minutes, so take a little longer. It will also depend on their age and if they are approaching a growth spurt. What should I wear? I generally advise Mum and Dad to wear white or black tops and preferably without any logos on them. Depending on Dad’s comfort level, it is lovely to photograph a newborn against bare skin, especially if Daddy has a nice tattoo. I also have lovely soft fabrics and wraps that we can use for the Mum and baby poses. If there is anything else you would like to know or have any questions or concerns, please do contact me. I am more than happy to answer any questions you have.
